How does the ProEar mask function:

The squeeze we feel during a dive is caused by the imbalance of pressure either side of the ear canal. While our ear canal is exposed to the water and ambient pressure, our middle ear (which is on the other side of the ear drum and is connected to our nasal cavity by the Eustachian tube) is still filled with air and experiences less pressure. The greater external force is able to push our ear drum inward, causing discomfort or even pain
With a ProEar mask, the ear is completed sealed off from the outside with the Ear Cover. We are then able to introduce air with the same pressure as your nasal cavity through the Eqaulisation Tube into the Ear Cover and the pressure on both sides of the ear drum becomes equal.
So as pressure and depth increase, the simple act of breathing air into your Ear Cover will significantly improve your enjoyment of diving!

How to use on an IST ProEar mask:

First of all, it will be very helpful to tie or brush your hair back so as much skin around your ears can be exposed.
Gently pull the ear covers apart and place them over your ears before using just enough force to slip the mask onto your face.
Make sure: your ears are in the middle of the covers, the silicone ear cover seals are not folded / bent, the mask and strap is snugly fit but not uncomfortably over tightened.
This mask will bring many new sensations to first time users and these include dry ears, increased sense of hearing and direction and its unique position when in use (the fact that the strap has to support the ear covers, you may feel it is sitting a little lower than usual). It is highly recommended to try this mask out in confined water before heading for a dive.
The special function of IST Pro-Ear mask can be felt at the beginning of every dive. When descending, slowly and gently exhale through the nose. Air will then travel through the equalisation tubes into the ear covers to help equalise the pressure in this "closed" system of ambient air pressure. There is no need to blow hard or the one-way valve contained within, which prevents a back flow of water in case of flooding, may "whistle" slightly. Occasionally you may need to pinch your nose to equalise as normal (especially when descending too fast) but the Pro-Ear will take the “squeeze” away.
Should the occasion arise to clear water logged in the ear covers (either caused by a leakage or a complete removal of the mask), you can drain water from the ear covers while remaining submerged. Simply exhale through your nose and the air travelled into the ear covers will push water out through the drainage cut away located in the bottom of the cover.
It is also helpful to press the mask against the face and / or pinch the equalisation tube on the opposite side of the ear cover you would like to clear.
